While we have been enjoying sunny 105 degree temperatures in Austin, Baghdad is already into the 115 range and will keep climbing. I've gotten friendly reminders of that when I have complained about the heat (though at least their heat is a dry heat :). Of course we don't have the dust storms to make it even that much more enjoyable.
Trevor and I got a brief glimpse of a little what Christian is going through. I had to take Christian's truck in to be fixed (thermostat) and after I picked it up it started to overheat and the air conditioning stopped working- of course after I was across town. I noticed the temperature rising and realized the truck was getting hotter and hotter. When I turned the air off and rolled the windows down the air outside felt so cool (scary when it was 102 at the time). Thankfully we made it back to the shop and they are looking into what happened as we speak and Mimi came and picked us up.
Christian has told me about how when they go places they travel in these transport vehicles that don't have much ventilation or air conditioning- and they have to wear their armored gear (about 35 pounds worth). Just doing it for 20 minutes was unbearable to me and I was wearing shorts!! Thankfully they only have to do that when they travel outside of their area which isn't often- or at least I don't think it is.
Trevor & I are off to the pool now!!
