So how do I explain...

Trevor asked his teacher at school today what his Daddy did at work and who his Daddy worked for and what his boss was like. She told him that he should ask Mommy that. Not having an answer I was relieved that he hasn't asked me yet, but I have no idea how I answer that question.... So far we have answered his questions with honesty, but I'm not sure how much a three year old can understand about the Army and how much I want him to understand???

Young children do not need complicated answers; however, you mbigh say that Daddy worked for his country (or some version of that), and that his work is to keep him and his family safe. He has many bosses and they all work together. I don't know if this is helpful pr what other qauestions he might ask. Love, Maxine

I agree with Maxine's advice. In addition, since Trevor's probably feeling a lot of things because of the seaparation, you might point out that Christian's job is protecting his friends. Hopefully, that's something a three year old can relate to without getting to geopolitics!

I'll go with a blend of Maxine and Paul's comments - Daddy works for his country, his job is protecting his family and friends, and for now he is overseas doing that. It keeps it uncomplicated and at a level a three year old and his friends can understand.
